Democratizing protest with design-led feminist tools

"Fighting For It" is a final-year project dedicated to mapping the evolution of feminism—from its historical roots to its intersectional present. Centred on a Feminist Kit, the project aims to democratize activism by making protest tools accessible, cost-effective and ready to use.

The kit includes a website built with HTML and CSS, where users can instantly customise and download printable protest posters. This removes barriers to participation and amplifies grassroots voices.

A set of seven editorial books—designed in InDesign—visually explores feminism’s role in politics and the arts. Each volume was conceived for low-cost home printing, using only white and red (100% Red) as a reference to the iconic red lipstick worn as a feminist symbol during WWII. The result is a cohesive, symbolic identity that ties past struggles to present action.

The project culminated in a public exhibition, inviting viewers to engage, reflect and take action through design.

Fighting For It turns design into a voice. Every colour, layout and tool is made to empower, to protest, and to make feminism visible — fast, loud and accessible.

"Fighting For It" is more than a final year project. It’s a personal and political response to the emotional weight of being a woman in a world where gender equality is still not a given. The project traces the history of feminism, from its origins to today’s intersectional struggles, through a Feminist Kit designed to support those who want to take a stand, even when time or resources are limited. The red and white identity reflects this mission — red, inspired by the bold lipstick worn by women during WWII, symbolises resistance and autonomy, while white brings contrast and clarity. As a woman, I witnessed how often people want to speak up but feel constrained by time or tools. This kit was created to remove that barrier and democratise participation.

The project includes seven editorial books, designed in InDesign for low-cost home printing, and a website developed in HTML/CSS that lets users quickly generate and download personalised protest posters. Together, they offer both education and action. "Fighting For It" is ultimately about empowering a community — design as a tool for collective voice, connection and change.
